Double or nothing: Brooklyn, Harpoon place Super Bowl bet

Fresh off Brooklyn Brewery’s victory in their bet with Anchor Brewing over the result of Sunday’s 49ers-Giants game, our local brewers have placed another bet - a rematch of bets, you might say. Since the Giants are facing off against the New England Patriots, Brooklyn and Harpoon Brewery have placed a friendly wager for next Sunday’s Super Bowl. And the bet may seem familiar.If the Patriots win, Brooklyn will pour Harpoon IPA at the brewery for a week, and the Brooklyn staff will wear Patriots jerseys. If the Giants repeat their Super Bowl result from four years ago, Harpoon will pour Brooklyn Lager in their tasting room and their brewery tour staff will wear Giants jerseys for a week this winter. 

Of course, pouring that beer will seem awfully familiar to Harpoon staff, who poured Brooklyn Lager in 2008 after making a similar bet. The jerseys, though, are a nice touch.

Back in San Francisco, Anchor’s staff will be wearing Giants jerseys next week, along with pouring Brooklyn Sorachi Ace in their brewery. To be honest, there are much worse ways to lose a bet than to have access to a keg of that beer.

We wish both sides luck this time around. Tragically, your editor was born into Patriots fandom, and won’t exactly be pulling for Big Blue. Besides, a little variety in Brooklyn’s tap selection never hurt anyone, right?
