Your Beery Weekend: January 13-15

Well, if you were saving up some of your annual beer consumption for the annual Hoboken St. Patrick’s Day Parade, you might as well start drinking now, since it was cancelled today. We’re secretly celebrating because of the massive amounts of truly awful, cheap beer that was consumed in the Mile Square that day. And we don’t appreciate the abuse of alcohol in any form, whether it’s overconsumption or spillage.

Anyway, Meatloaf’s up there on the top of this post. Wondering why? Read down for a rundown of this weekend’s beer events.

FRIDAY

  • Meet the ‘Gansett Girls from Narragansett tonight at MexiQ (37-11 30th Ave., at 38th St., Astoria) from 6-8pm, and enjoy some of their Lager… the official beer of the clam! Ahem. Right.
  • Up in Westchester, Birdsall House (970 Main St., at Division St., Peekskill) is tapping a keg of Smuttynose Satchmo, a porter brewed with mushrooms and oak chips that’s part of their “short batch” series. Things get underway tonight at 6pm as part of their weekly Friday Keg Tapping series.
  • Grab some free samples of Weyerbacher Merry Monks tonight at 5:30pm at One Stop Beer Shop (134 Kingsland Ave., at Beadel St., Greenpoint), and check out this new craft beer venue in North Brooklyn. It’s worth the trip for the bar alone… the free beer is just a bonus!

SATURDAY

  • We’ve already mentioned the Blind IPA Tasting at Mugs Alehouse (125 Bedford Ave., at N. 11th St., Williamsburg), but we’ll mention it again: $25 gets you tastings of 12 different IPAs, snacks, a pint glass to fill with your favorite of the IPAs, and the thrill of learning that the beer you chose as your favorite was everyone else’s favorite, too. Things get underway at noon.
  • Pretty Things pays a visit to at GRAB Specialty Foods (438 7th Ave., at 15th St., Park Slope) on Saturday from 4-7pm. They’ll be pouring free samples along with some delicious farmstead cheeses. Plus, growler fills of Pretty Things are 10% off!

SUNDAY

  • Head over to Blind Tiger Ale House (281 Bleecker St., at Jones St., West Village) as Stillwater Artisanal Ales pays a visit with brewer Brian Strumke. They’ll be pouring Stateside Saison, Cellar Door, Anniversary Ale 25 to 1, and much more from the gypsy brewer based out of Baltimore. The fun gets started around 3pm.
  • The 508 Gastrobrewery (508 Greenwich St., at Spring St., SoHo) rolls out a new beer-pairing menu this weekend that’s available Sundays and Mondays from 5:30-7:30pm. For $39, get your choice of three items, including Slow-Roasted Goat “Sloppy Joe” Sliders and Wild Boar Smoked Sausage Flatbread, and unlimited pours of their house-made draft beers, like the Neve’s Winter Ale and Brazil Nut Brown Ale!
  • Now, about that Meatloaf. Wait, no… not that Meatloaf. Meatloaf you can eat! Barcade Jersey City (163 Newark Ave., at Erie St., Jersey City) hosts their Meatloaf-A-Thon on Sunday from 4-8pm. A $10 donation gets you all-you-can-eat meatloaf from up to 25 different contestants competing for the best loaf. If you get there early with some meatloaf, you can compete yourself! All proceeds to go The Meatloaf Kitchen, an East Village-based soup kitchen.
