Drink blindly at Mugs this Saturday

There are few bars we love more than Mugs Alehouse (125 Bedford Ave., at N. 11th St., Williamsburg). It’s the place your dear editor learned craft beer. It’s where he had his first barleywine (the 2001 Brooklyn Monster), it’s where he had his first Belgian beer (Delirium Tremens), and it’s where he learned what that weird citrusy taste in his beer was.
Of course, that taste was hops. And there are fewer styles that celebrate hops more than the American IPA. And this Saturday, January 14th at noon, Mugs will host their first Blind Tasting. Here’s how it works, in the words of its creators:
The day will include 12 American IPAs on draft, blind taste test (4oz pour) try ‘em all, try ‘em as often as you’d like, vote for your favorite. After submitting a vote, grab a free pint glass filled with your favorite beer.
Check in at Noon, get your 4oz sampling glass, score card and a poker chip. Taste all the IPA’s till 2pm (or longer if you need time). Also enjoy locally made SlantShack Beef Jerky, Cheese by Pampered Cow Artisanal and more. During the last, you’ll cast your vote in exchange receive a pint glass to keep. Fill it up with your favorite IPA’s till 3pm. Your ticket purchase covers the cost of all beer consumption and snacks till 3pm!
We’re smacking our lips just thinking about it.
Anyway, as they said above, the tasting starts at noon on Saturday, and it’s just $25 for the tastings, snacks, and a pint glass. You can buy your tickets through Brown Paper Tickets now!
