Sixpoint’s Autumnation is here!

The wait is over. The first day of fall is this Friday, and Sixpoint Craft Ales’ fall seasonal - Autumnation - is finally here! It’s been pouring at Union Pool (484 Union Ave., at Skillman Ave., Williamsburg) since Monday as part of a special event, but it’ll be available in 16-ounce cans on store shelves starting today.

Autumnation is a bit different than your typical fall beer. It celebrates the harvest of two crops - pumpkins and hops. The beer uses pumpkin in the mash like your traditional pumpkin beer. But then it adds a hefty addition of hops - ultra-fresh Citra Hops overnighted from Washington’s Yakima Valley, to be precise - and dry hops the beer, making it quite a bit more bitter than most pumpkin beers - a hefty 68 IBUs (International Bittering Units, for the uninitiated. That’s pretty darn bitter). Wet hopping also gives the beer a refreshing hop aroma and flavor.

You’ll start to see it on shelves today across the city at your local beer shop. If you don’t want to go on a wild goose chase, Good Beer (422 E. 9th St., btw. 1st Ave. and Ave. A) will have a tasting tomorrow night at 6:30pm featuring some fresh-off-the-truck Autumnation cans. We’ll keep tabs on where else to find it via Twitter.
